Tami's
Values
I’m Tami (Robinson) Soper, and I would be honored to represent District 21 in the Nebraska Legislature.
I believe Nebraskans are proud, hard-working people with solid values. Like my neighbors in this district, I value the quality of life that we have here in Nebraska. Maintaining the “Good Life” means ensuring that our policies support strong families, strong communities and a growing economy.
That’s why I’m running
for Legislature.
It’s time that
we put people before politics and address the concerns
of everyday Nebraskans.
As your State Senator, here are some of
the areas where I’m
interested in making a difference:
Education
• The best investment we can make in our future is to educate our children
today. We have got to ensure that our schools have adequate funding to prepare
our children to compete in this global economy.
• My mother was an elementary school teacher for 34 years.
I understand what an awesome responsibility our teachers have.
And, I know it will take competitive teacher pay to make sure
Nebraska schools continue to attract and retain quality, committed
educators.
• School bonds can cause economic strain on communities that already feel
they are paying too much in property taxes. It is time we consider making the
costs of building construction a part of our State’s school aid formula.
• The quest for excellence in education should be never ending, but we
cannot continue to increase expectations for schools and teachers without providing
them with the resources they need to get the job done. I will not support additional
unfunded mandates to our already stressed educational system.
Health
• When hard working Nebraskans are paying insurance premiums every month
and still can’t afford to take their children to the doctor it’s
time to make the rising cost of health care a priority.
• An ounce of prevention truly is worth a pound of cure.
I am a strong supporter of health promotion and disease prevention
as mechanisms for keeping health costs under control.
• Nebraska has got to get creative about addressing the shortage of health
care workers in our rural areas. Offering incentives to the men and women who
serve as volunteer fire and emergency services personnel may be a place to start.
Natural Resources
• Economic growth and natural resources go hand-in-hand in Nebraska. Ethanol
offers Nebraska the opportunity to grow economically and play a role in decreasing
our nation’s dependence on foreign oil.
• We are lucky to be sitting atop aquifers in Nebraska, but we must not
take our precious ground water resource for granted.
• Careful planning and ongoing evaluation will allow us to benefit from
our natural resources without over expending them.
What’s most important to me is helping
you with the challenges you face. I’d like to hear about
what’s important to you and your family. I welcome your
suggestions about what you believe the Nebraska Legislature
can do to better serve you.
